A WA NIBI
A Wa Nibi, We Are Here, pays homage to language within the Nigerian queer community by showcasing the works of contemporary African queer visual and performance artists who are building new forms and narratives that properly capture the beauty, the resilience - the reality of queer life in Nigeria today. In observing the lived realities of contemporary queer Africans, Obodo in collaboration with Kampnagel showcased and curated the photography and experimental visual art of African artists including Yagazie Emezi, Sabelo Mlangeni, Rachel Seidu, Daniel Obasi and more, by presenting a series of workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, and performances in Lagos and Hamburg.
THE SHIT AND THE SUNRISE
The Shit and The Sunrise is an anthology about existing in contradiction. It emerges from the everyday reality of queer life in Nigeria, where survival and imagination sit side by side, and where despair does not cancel out hope, but sharpens it. The anthology gathers essays, reflections, poetry, and fragments written in close dialogue with artists whose practices insist on presence in a society structured around erasure.
Born from the Obodo Artist Fund 2024, The Shit and The Sunrise is not only a record of artistic production, but a counter-archive: proof that queer people are here, have always been here, and continue to create languages for living on their own terms.
